the Sawatzky Nomad

We hope to keep all of our cross-provincial friends, and those abroad, updated with this blog. And maybe even hear from some who are long lost friends.

Mom's 50!

Well yesterday we had a fun time celebrating my Mom's 50th Birthday. Of course we mocked her for being incredibly old but we also wanted her to have some fun. So we threw a big party at Mom and Dad's house (if you were not invited you either don't know my mom, live far away or are not old enough to be invited to an old person party). My sister Lisa came up with an idea for my Mom's gift, we found a nice picture frame and all of the kids, granddaughter and dog went for studio portraits. It was pretty cool to watch Mom open it, of course she cried. But I think it was one of those good cries not a, oh my children are so hideous, kind of cries. At least I hope so. Anyway, it was a lot of fun and I hope Mom had a great time. Mom, we love you lots and we'll put you in a good home. I mean, it was fun having a party at your home, ya, that's it. Posted by Picasa

expecting...round 2

Since my friend Sarah called me pure evil for our last post titled Expecting, I thought for Christmas I shouldn't be so evil! So, guess what - okay I'll just tell you - We're really expecting! our second child that is. I'm just finished my 1st Trimester which makes us due beginning of July.

And here's a picture of Nadia with some homemade fun, a pasta necklace and a shaker. I don't think she quiet understands that we're having another baby, but she sure is excited in this picture.

BC snow

So this never usually happens on the prairies. Snow just hanging like this. It reminds me of home a little.
Nadia is checking out the snow on the deck. Actually she's testing it out by eating it. She kept saying boots, boots, because she wanted so bad to go out and play in the snow. Maybe on a warmer day. I know -15 is not that cold, but too cold for a toddlers little hands that want to experience the snow.

And I had to put this one on. It's Nadia new favourite thing to put stickers on her face. At least she's mostly stop putting them on the lino...in a neat line. So cute, but so hard to get off. Posted by Picasa

expecting!

We are expecting! ...a baby bird around Christmas time. Here's a picture of the egg our little finches laid. There were 2 eggs, but 1 fell or was push out and cracked. That's why I have it in my hand. It was on its way to the garbage. But, our active little finches now spend all day sitting on their 1 precious egg. I hope all that hard work pays off and it hatches. We'll keep you posted.

contest results

If you didn't get a chance to vote in our contest, sorry but it's now over!

I was asking everyone's opinion on "mau" which sounds like cow but with an 'm', and "he-o". Thanks to all who humoured me and took a guess. It's fun to hear what you came up with. I know it's not quite fair because you have absolutely no context to work with. But sometimes neither do I!

"mau" is actually jam - go figure
"he-o" is hero.

She's been watching Veggie Tales - Larry Boy and the Bad Apple - Larry Boy is the hero. She is really too cute when she makes her little construction man fly around the house and says he-o, he-o.

I guess you're all wondering if there is a winner in this contest. Well, yes of course. I chose Jennifer Friesen - because she wrote in twice trying to guess! Way to go Jen!

Nadia's Words

Nadia is 21 months old and she is surprising us with new words everyday. In fact, I wish I had a translator because sometimes it's a wild guess to figure it out. Here is a sampling of Nadia's best words:

tattoo = water
tittoo = Mr. Potato Head
a-no = I don't know
bee bah = ladybug
ki ki = kitty cat or Mrs. Karen
puppy = sippy cup or puppy
bubby = garbage
pie = boy
me me = excuse me
t-tie = hair ties
ya ya = Nadia

Nadia can say many words very well, but those are just boring for me to write out.

Here is a contest for you. Place your guesses! What is mow (like cow but with an 'm')? and what is he-o? Let's see if anyone can get them both correct. If you do, you can be my word translator - sorry it's a non-paid position.

Happy guessing!

It's coming

For the first time ever we are putting up a Christmas tree. In previous years we've typically done nothing or decorated our fig tree or small pine - but it was lame! So we went out and bought a real Christmas tree. It was covered in snow and ice. We had to let it thaw in the laundry room. And then it still dripped for hours after we cut it open. It still smells like a forest in our place and it's already been set up for a few days.
It was a process to get it up, straight, lights on and decorated. In total it took us 3 days. I actually had to go and buy more lights because our string of 100 just wasn't cutting it. As people came over to our home for our life group we were just finishing the decorating. We'll see how long these little ornaments last. They were cheap but they're also made of straw and thread.
