the Sawatzky Nomad

We hope to keep all of our cross-provincial friends, and those abroad, updated with this blog. And maybe even hear from some who are long lost friends.

I'm not a faker!

So seriously ... what's the deal!

Twice I've had false labour now..and last night we actually went to the hospital. Including the contractions I had at 30 weeks this is the third time. Is this baby shy? I know it's good for the baby to stay in there longer - especially since my due date is not until July 4th, but really, this is getting old. Have any of you experienced false labour? How did you keep sane and calm about the whole thing? I think I'm over stressed, anyone have a good way to de-stress?

I'm smiling here, but that was yesterday! :)

just in time

Today I finally finished my baby quilt. It's nothing special, but it was a fun project...especially since I'm new to sewing. So we're almost ready for the baby to come. I just set up the playpen as a crib and now we just need to put together the change table. We don't actually have a room for the baby - that's why we've waited this long to set stuff up (we're sharing our room with the baby.) Not the ideal, but it should be okay for the few weeks we have left until we move. Now we just need somewhere to move to. As of this moment we plan to move in about 4-5 weeks and we don't have a house or place to stay. Anyone got a big tent we could borrow?

AHHHH!!!!

I'm done 37 weeks of pregnancy - less than 3 to go until my due date! I can't even believe this pregnancy has gone this fast. I'm getting very near the end and I still feel super great! I love it. Although in the last few days I can really feel that the baby is gaining weight and length. I was getting worried we were going to have a "small" baby. But, I guess those Sawatzky genes are kicking in!

Today I finally pulled out all the newborn stuff. I guess maybe we should set up a place for the baby now!

Nadia and I put together the new baby swing - thanks Opa and Oma! It's totally cool - it's a swing, a rocker chair and a stable chair all in one. Nadia is in love with it and had way too much fun pushing Heavy Baby in it. She's learning the physics of a swing - like, get out of the way when it's coming at you!
And of course the box was a huge hit. She thought it was a tremendously amusing bed, especially after she worked that bowed shape into it.

another contest: the baby guess

We're having another contest! I'm now just 4 weeks away from my due date and I think it's time we started the poles for when this baby will arrive. Today I went for an ultrasound and the tech estimated the baby's weight to be 5 lbs. 14 oz. (there's 16 oz. in a pound). Science says that the baby grows 1/2 to 1 lb. per week in the last 4 weeks. Now that you have the info, start the guessing. This contest has 3 parts. First guess when the baby will arrive, then guess the weight and also the gender! Oh, I can't wait to read your guesses.

Here is a photo of Nadia with her 'car slide' as we call it. Daddy just couldn't resist buying this from a garage sale. Nadia is addicted to garage sales now. She thinks they all have cool toys for her to try out.

the first stay

For the first time ever my parents came to stay with us. I actually think this is the first place we've lived where we even had a spare room. I picked up my parents (Opa & Oma to Nadia) at the airport and they stepped out into gail force winds. I'm pretty sure that tainted their view of SK.
This was the best visit ever! Nadia completely adored Opa and Oma. I think she especially loved Opa because he got down on the ground and played trains with her. It sure was fun watching my Dad figure out how to put this train track together. Being a former architect and construction worker probably helped!
We went out for authentic Chinese and we ordered the first 2 dishes of the peeking duck. Tim's Uncle Nel got us totally hooked on the duck! My parents and even Nadia really enjoyed it too - at least that's what they said! Nadia is loving the spring roll, and I love that she will eat just about anything.
Yes, that's a tree branch in Nadia's hand. I don't know!

Hanging out downstairs in the play room. Nadia's not the only one who loves to put the frog on her head. I guess we have a better idea of where she gets that silliness from!

Thanks to Opa and Oma for making the trip out to visit and even staying in our place. We loved every minute and can't wait for the next visit.
