the Sawatzky Nomad

We hope to keep all of our cross-provincial friends, and those abroad, updated with this blog. And maybe even hear from some who are long lost friends.

A few reasons

A few Reasons why you should not have a baby, move and start a new career in the same month from Tim.

Reason one:

My brain feels like molasses. Or for you techy types, like a Pentium 1 computer. Someone will say something to me and my response goes something like this, [brain initializing the formal response sequence],[starting the formal response sequence],[Formulating a response]......[Formulating a response].......[Formulating a response], [response formulated], [checking response for errors], [checking the appropriateness of the response], [response appropriate], [delivering response, this may take several minutes]. While verbally you hear this, "AAAHHHH. I ... am ... well!" (that was for you Colleen).

Reason two:

I can't seem to words my around straight get. Do you ever have this problem? You know that it is you who is doing the talking but inside you are making fun of yourself for mixing up your words. And I can't seem to form words correctly either.

Reason three:

I can't remember anyones name. I don't know how many times when I have mentioned someone to Anna that I've said, "You know that guy".

Reason four:

My stupid coffee maker broke this morning. OK that has nothing to do with moving or lack of sleep but man does that bug me. Starbuck's will exchange it for free but seriously, this is the second one. My first one didn't even make one cup of coffee.

Reason five:

We've been so busy that I just told my neighbors today that we are moving on Saturday. How bad is that? And we like our neighbors too.

Reason six:

It really limits video game playing. Next.

Reason seven:

My kids are a little out of sorts. I took down Nadia's book shelf today and I don't think she really knew what to do with that. She asked me to put it back but was ok when I told her we were taking it along to Birch Hills. And poor Colin spent the evening in a box until we realized he was packed by mistake... not really, for all you child activists out there.

Reason eight:

I've had no time to think about my new job, just about getting there. But I guess getting there is half the battle.

And finally, for all of you who send hate mail if we post two blogs in a row without cute pictures:

A little warm

Well it was 38 degrees C here today except it felt more like 45. So for all of you whiners out there (myself included) I thought instead of pictures of my kids I would post reminders of what it was like 6 months ago and we were all saying "I can't wait for summer and a little 40 degree heat".Colin doesn't seem to mind the heat, he just sleeps all the time. And Nadia is just running around naked today and going in her swimming pool. Trust me the same thought crossed my mind. We have managed to keep it a cool 30 inside so after going outside it feels a lot cooler in here. 30 degrees is not cooler! Oh well, at least I don't have to shovel. But I do have to move boxes.

lounging around

Nadia just loves splashing in her pool, while Colin chills in his chair, with an adorable hat from Tim & Juanita!

The shirt Auntie Lisa made for Nadia. Accept Nadia turned out to be a girl. So now Colin can enjoy this cute shirt. Loving the sauna effect in my towel after his bath. Colin! Do you realize it's 30 degrees C, and you're cuddled in a big bath towel! Crazy man!

11 day weigh in

We went to the doctor's yesterday for Colin's 1 week check-up. Oops! I thought it was suppose to be a 10 day check. But anyway, he was born at 7 lbs. 10 oz. and when we took him home he was 7 lbs. 3 oz. Yesterday, at 11 days old, he weighed in at 8 lbs. 7 oz! I guess that's why I feel tired and hungry! Colin seems to be gaining really well and also developing his Sawatzky lungs. He no longer just grunts, he really gets into the wailing. So we're really looking forward to moving into a place with 3 bedrooms - and a door!

more pictures

Since you're asking...or maybe it's just Danielle. We are doing really well and Colin is a completely content baby! He is also a really good eater - which means I'm not getting much sleep, but even so, I feel good. Since our place is just a 2 bedroom upstairs, we thought we would put his playpen in our bedroom during the day and then drag it into the kitchen for the night. But, then we learned that the playpen needs to be completely disassembled to get through the door. So Colin has been downgraded to the dining room. He doesn't seem to care though. We run around and play around him all day and he is just totally content to sleep. Our baby is already cool!

About Nadia. The first day home from the hospital, she had a cold and hadn't eaten or really slept. So freaking out happened for the evening. The next day was more of the same until miracle worker Daddy got a sippy-cup down her and then she was completely fine. Since then, she has adored Colin and loves to be with him. We're hoping this doesn't change. Here's hoping!

our baby's here!

Here he is ... baby Colin Wayne Sawatzky, born Friday, June 29th at 1:06am, weighing 7 lbs. 10 oz. and 21 1/4" in length. It was a quick labour and delivery, and we praise God that we're all healthy and doing very well.
Colin was taken to the NICU about an hour after delivery to be observed because of gitters and grunting. Turns out that it resolved itself and all the tests they preformed came back normal and healthy.
Oma booked her flights about 6 weeks ago, knowing that she would come and go before the baby's due date. God is so cool, because Colin came about 8 hours before she arrived here in Saskatoon. We are so grateful for her help, cooking, cleaning and helping with Colin. What a blessing!
Nadia is loving Colin and being a great big sister so far!
Our twins!? This is Nadia's Heavy Baby and Colin in the playpen. They are pretty much the same size.

For all of you who guessed about when the baby would be born - thanks! It was a great turn out! But the winner is ... Tim! And as a celebration for himself he bought the Colin McRae computer game ... Dirt. I'm sure Colin and Daddy will be racing cars against each other soon!
